Fastest ever in the USA from sequence to phase 1 and fro sequence to now phase 3 We had in Building 1 a virtual press conference at 10:00 AM with me, Francis Collins, Matt Hepburn, and Stefan Bancel announcing the start of the Phase 1 trial. Met with the POTUS in the Oval Office today briefing him (with Azar, Collins, Gen. Perna, Moncef, Jared Kushner) about therapeutics and vaccines. He was typical stream of consciousness and rambling on. It is clear he wants therapeutics quickly. He accepted that the vaccine might not be ready before the election, but he was not happy about it. He kept pushing about when therapy would be ready. Francis and I were surprised when some of the WH staff sitting behind us told him that the convalescent plasma data looked real good and we would have definitive results tomorrow. Had no idea what they were talking about since we know that the plasma data are a mess and we are bringing in statisticians (independent) to look at the data.
