Momentous Day!!! Today we had the ceremony for my “stepping down” at NIH. I chose
a simple ceremony with 3 minute speeches by Larry Tabak, Francis Collins, John Gallin,
Cliff Lane and Christine. This was followed by a 15 minute Q and A with John Burklow
and a concluding speech by me. I thought that I would get through the entire speech
without choking up but when I got to the point about Christine, I choked up for about 15
seconds. The ceremony was exactly like I wanted it – no bells and whistles.
