Alas! Rochelle listened to me. She overruled the recommendation of the ACIP. She actually called me last night at 11:25 PM and then a couple of minutes later to tell me that she had taken my advice and overruled their rejection of the third bullet. Unfortunately David Awwad had put a “do not disturb” between 11:00 PM and 5:00 AM on my cell phone and I missed her call. I then texted her add 5 30 AM telling her that I was sorry that I missed her call. She texted me right back and we spoke by phone at around 5:40. I congratulated her on what she had done and told her that she has now shown clear leadership as the director of CDC. Her recommendations are indicated below “ CDC recommends: • people 65 years and older and residents in long-term care settings should receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, • people aged 50–64 years with underlying medical conditions should receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, • people aged 18–49 years with underlying medical conditions may receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, based on their individual benefits and risks, and • people aged 18-64 years who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting may receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, based on their individual benefits and risks.
