Had a very nice and informative discussion with the minister of foreign affairs of Bosnia and
Herzegovina, Bisera Turkovic. She is in a very difficult situation in that she was promised
vaccine from CoVAX; however, they have not come through on their promise. Therefore, she is
asking me as a trusted person for suggestions on how she might address the outbreak in her own
country. As of February 22, 2021 there have been 128,000 cases and 5000 deaths in Bosnia and
Herzegovina. I could not help her very much except to encourage her to have her people
continue to wear masks and observe appropriate public health measures. I also suggested to her
that she tried to make a deal with the Russians to try to get some of their vaccine. I also
suggested that are possible long range solutions to try and get some of the surplus vaccine that
would be left over after the USA vaccinated its entire population. She was very grateful for the
discussion.
