Tedros called me up and aske me to help him connect with the Biden people, i.e. Sec Becerra,
Jeff Zients, the VP, etc. Stewart Simonson willing to help me since I am ultra busy.
Had confidential conversation with the Janssen people – Paul Stoffels et al about the Ad26
vaccine data. Not that great. 77% VE in USA and ~50% in RSA. Will get more details later.
Data better against severe disease but this will be a messaging problem.
Novavax and Janssen came out with their embargoed (until tomorrow) results of their trials:
Novavax phase 3 in UK – 90% VE; Phase 2b in RSA – 50% VE.
Janssen phase 3 in USA/RSA/Brazil - 72% VE at 28 days (a 1 dose vaccine); 85% VE against
severe disease; 57% VE in mod/severe disease in RSA at 28 days and 88% VE with severe
disease in RSA
Much press activity and emphasis on the fact that antigenic variation has clinical consequences.
Also, with both vaccines, good news for the global supply
