New York Times had my picture and front page of Sports Section today with the
headline saying that I believe that professional sports may need to be cancelled
this season. That was not what I said. Like I said clearly in the Ryan Zimmerman
interview, it would depend on the status of the virus in any given City. We could
do sports only on TV or we could have the stadiums half full or completely full or
not at all. They headlined the latter.

The media frenzy continues on and on with me:

Announcement today that Joe Grogan will resign as Director of the Domestic
Policy Council on May 24 (3 weeks). Another example of the changes that Mark
Meadows is making along with shaking up the Comms group.

Had another tense meeting in Roosevelt Room led by Joe Grogan and Deb. Deb.
again attacked (somewhat justifiably) the lack of leaderhip at HHS central. Steve
Hahn piled on too even obliquely criticizing Azar. Problem is that we are
suffering now from the weakness and complete inadequacy of BARDA. We
(NIAID – particularly John Macola/Cliff and Carl can do the massive master-
protocol trial of multiple candiates. The central leadership is lacking. Alex has
failed to hold Bob Kadlec responsible and Bob has completely delegated BARDA
to a group of weak people who are fixed in ways that you can get awaywith in
normal times, but defimitely not when you are in a global health crisis wher the
country and the world depends on us to develop a vaccine and therapies. Right
now, vaccine is critical. I will meet tomorrow with Francis, Cliff and John to plan
how to handle this.
